| Obverse description | Draped bust of Sasanian king Khusro I facing right, wearing a distinctive crenellated crown with pendant ribbons and a beaded diadem, rendered in the provincial Chaganian imitative style with bold, somewhat schematized relief. The bust is encircled by a beaded border with flowing decorative ribbon motifs in the field. Three countermarks depicting Sogdian heads are applied around the central effigy — one visible at the upper field and two flanking the bust — each struck with a small punch over the original die work. The overall design faithfully follows Sasanian prototype iconography while exhibiting the cruder workmanship characteristic of Northern Tokharistan local imitations. |
