| Opis rewersu | A griffin, shown in dynamic left-facing posture with wings spread and raised, attacks a stag that kneels and collapses to the left beneath it. The predatory scene is rendered with considerable energy and detail, the griffin's eagle head and leonine body clearly delineated. A thunderbolt appears in the upper field above the group. The reverse type draws on Anatolian and Achaemenid artistic conventions, employing the griffin-and-prey motif common to the satrapal coinage of the region. The composition fills the flan with assured, vigorous engraving characteristic of late Achaemenid period civic and dynastic issues. |
