| Obverse description | Baal of Gaziura enthroned left, his torso depicted facing, extending his right hand to hold a grape bunch, grain ear, and eagle, while his left hand rests on a lotus-tipped scepter. The deity is rendered in the Achaemenid artistic tradition, combining Semitic religious iconography with Persian court imagery. The Aramaic inscription B'L GZYR, reading 'Baal [of] Gaziura,' appears in the right field. The overall composition reflects the syncretic religious and political character of Cappadokian coinage under Ariarathes I. |
