Korkyra — modern Corfu — occupied an uncomfortable position between Corinthian colonial authority and its own political ambitions, a tension that erupted into one of the ancient world's most destructive civil conflicts in 427 BC. Thucydides treated the Korkyraean stasis as a turning point, the moment factional violence became normalized across the Greek world.
