The musculature and mane are conveyed through schematic incised lines typical of Gaulish celator craft. Above the lion, a horizontal band of curvilinear and looped decorative motifs imitates the appearance of a Greek inscription without conveying any legible text, a pseudo-legend common on Cenomanic coinage of this series. The composition fills the flan with confident, abstracted energy characteristic of the La Tène artistic tradition. The field is otherwise plain. |
