| Obverse description | Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in bold relief with flowing curly hair and beard rendered in fine strands; the portrait exhibits the vigorous, naturalistic style characteristic of Cretan coinage of the Hellenistic period. The flan is irregular, consistent with hand-struck ancient coinage. The field is plain and unlettered save for the incuse letter alpha (A) visible in the lower field. |
