| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena in right profile, wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back on the head, the bowl of the helmet decorated with incised lines and a prominent crest; the facial features rendered in archaic-transitional style typical of Cretan coinage of the 4th century BC, with a pronounced nose and strong jaw. The portrait fills the flan with no visible legend or border, consistent with the anonymous civic issues of Rithymna. |
