Beschrijving keerzijde Helmeted or adorned head of Aphrodite facing left, her hair elegantly arranged, tied with a ribbon and bound at the crown while falling in loose tresses behind the neck, consistent with late Classical Corinthian portraiture. She wears a pendant earring and a necklace, rendered with fine engraving detail. The letters Δ and O are disposed across the fields to either side of the head, functioning as magistrate or control marks. The portrait exhibits a refined Hellenistic artistic sensibility, with smooth modeling of the facial features and careful attention to coiffure.

Aanvullende informatie

This drachm falls within the turbulent period when Corinth was controlled by Ptolemy I's general Ptolemy son of Lagus, who seized the city as part of the broader scramble for Greek territory following Alexander's death. Corinthian silver of this window is notoriously difficult to sequence precisely; the BCD collection, sold at Leu in 2006, remains the benchmark for die-linking these transitional issues, and BCD 150 sits near the boundary between civic and Macedonian-influenced production phases.
