In her extended right hand she holds a wreath, and in her left hand a trident, an attribute associating her with the Poseidon iconography of the obverse. To the left of the figure, a magistrate's monogram appears in the upper field above the Greek letter Ξ (Xi). The ethnic legend ΒΟΙΩΤΩΝ is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing authority as the Boeotian League. The composition is well-centered and typical of the federal silver coinage of the League during the late 3rd to early 2nd century BC. |
