Chersonesos in Caria — not to be confused with the better-known Tauric Chersonesos on the Black Sea — was a small peninsula settlement whose coinage falls within the broader Carian dynastic sphere, though it operated with enough autonomy to produce its own silver issues during the early classical period. The decades bracketing 480–450 BC place this coin squarely in the shadow of the Persian Wars, when Caria nominally sat under Achaemenid authority following its submission after the Ionian Revolt of 494 BC.

The "var." notations against both Aulock and Karia suggest a die combination or minor type detail not precisely matched in either corpus — worth documenting carefully against both references.
