Obverse description Draped laureate bust of Louis XIII facing right, wearing a laurel wreath and ruffled collar, occupying the central field. The legend commences at approximately 8 o'clock and reads LOIS.XIII.R.D.FRAN.E.NAV, with a small letter E beneath the bust serving as the Tours mint mark. The inscription is enclosed within an incomplete smooth inner circle, with the legend running between that circle and the coin's rim.

Reverse description Three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a triangular formation occupy the central field, two above and one below, all within a smooth inner circle. The legend + DOVBLE.TOVRNOIS.1637 commences at 12 o'clock and runs clockwise around the periphery, separated from the central design by the smooth circle. The fleurs-de-lis are rendered in the bold, stylised manner typical of French royal copper coinage of the period.
