| Obverse description | Central field displays a stylized ducal bust or crowned heraldic device in low relief, characteristic of mid-15th-century Breton hammered coinage. The design is rendered in a crude but distinctive Gothic style typical of provincial French feudal mints of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading the duke's name and title. The flan is irregular in shape, with typical striking weakness at the periphery. The overall die style reflects the modest artistic standards of the Nantes mint under John V. |
