| Beschrijving keerzijde | A floriated cross (croix fleurdelisée), its four arms terminating in fleurs-de-lis, occupying the full reverse field. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the legend, dividing the field into four quarters. The encircling legend is inscribed in medieval Latin. On certain varieties, the crown on the obverse contains an annelet within the oval, and the reverse cross may be a croix recroisetée accompanied by flanking pellets, as documented across the known die varieties. |

Charles de Blois struck these during his contested tenure as Duke of Brittany, a claim he fought for across more than two decades of the War of Breton Succession against John de Montfort and his English-backed heirs. The conflict, which drew in both the French crown and England as proxy belligerents, meant that coinage authority itself was a political act — minting under ducal titles was an assertion of legitimacy as much as a financial necessity.
Charles was eventually captured at the Battle of La Roche-Derrien in 1347 and held in English captivity for nine years. Coinage continued in his name during that absence.
