Obverse description Ducal crown flanked on either side by two large ermine tails that intersect the surrounding circular legend, with the abbreviated title DVX prominently displayed in the central field beneath the crown. The design is rendered in a bold, medieval hammered style typical of feudal French billon coinage. The legend encircles the crown and ermine devices, partially cut by the crown's form.

Reverse description A floriated cross (croix fleurdelisée), its four arms terminating in fleurs-de-lis, occupying the full reverse field. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the legend, dividing the field into four quarters. The encircling legend is inscribed in medieval Latin. On certain varieties, the crown on the obverse contains an annelet within the oval, and the reverse cross may be a croix recroisetée accompanied by flanking pellets, as documented across the known die varieties.
