| Obverse description | Central field features the abbreviation DVX flanked on either side by two vertical rows of three fleurs-de-lis each, arranged symmetrically. The surrounding circular legend reads KAROLVS BRITANORV DVX, identifying Charles as Duke of the Bretons. The lettering is rendered in Gothic majuscules typical of mid-14th-century feudal coinage, separated by a cross pattée at the legend's commencement. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped, consistent with hammered billon coinage of the period. |
