Obverse description Central device features a large fleur-de-lis in high relief, set within a beaded inner circle forming a tressure or scroll border. The fleur-de-lis is rendered in the Gothic style typical of Capetian-Valois coinage, with prominent lateral petals and a central stalk. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle within the outer beaded border. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered billon coinage of Philippe VI of Valois.

Obverse lettering ✠ PHILIPPVS • REX
(Translation: Philip king.)
Reverse description Central design features a cross whose arms are each composed of a fleur-de-lis motif, forming a fleur-de-lis cross, with a quatrefoil at the center where the arms intersect. The entire design is contained within a beaded inner circle (grenetis). A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, running between the inner and outer beaded borders. The composition is a classic example of the double parisis reverse type as issued under the Valois monetary reforms of the early 1340s.
