Obverse description Within the central field, the ducal title is rendered in two lines reading BRI / TAN, accompanied by two or three ermine spots (mouchetures) positioned above the text, serving as the heraldic initial mark of the Duchy of Brittany. The surrounding circular legend identifies the issuer as Charles, Duke of Brittany. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of mid-14th century hammered billon coinage, with punctuation marks varying by variety. The lettering is Gothic in character, with minor field ornaments such as annulets appearing between the legend elements depending on the die variety.

Reverse description The reverse displays a fleurdelisée cross — a plain cross with fleur-de-lis terminals at each arm — occupying the majority of the flan, with the four quarters left open. A circular legend surrounds the cross identifying the mint as Rennes. Depending on the die variety, small ornamental elements such as annulets or a small bar appear at the foot of the cross, and punctuation marks of varying forms (annulets, colons, or dots) punctuate the legend. The style is consistent with Breton feudal coinage of the mid-14th century.
