| Obverse description | Draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, wearing a long flowing wig of abundant curls cascading over the shoulders, engraved in the refined Baroque style of Joseph Roëttiers. The king's portrait is rendered with regal authority, the drapery visible at the truncation. The circumferential Latin legend reads LVD. XIIII. D. G. FR. ET. NAV. REX., identifying the monarch as King of France and Navarre by the Grace of God. The field is smooth and unadorned, with a milled or toothed border encircling the entire design. |
