| Obverse description | Second bust of King Charles I facing left, depicted in ruff, armour, and mantle, rendered in the hammered style typical of early Stuart coinage. The Roman numeral X, denoting the denomination of ten shillings (Double Crown), appears in the field behind the bust. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, interrupted by pellet stops. The portrait is characteristic of the second bust type introduced at the Tower Mint following Charles I's accession in 1625. |
