| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field features a long cross with fleurs-de-lis terminating each arm, the quarters charged alternately with fleurs-de-lis and dolphins, emblematic of the royal arms of France and the Dauphin title. The cross is set within a double beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads XPS VICIT XPS REGNAT XPS IMPERAT, the traditional Christus vincit acclamation invoking Christ as conqueror, king, and ruler, a formula long employed on French royal coinage. The mint mark V for Villefranche-de-Rouergue appears in the legend. The hammered flan displays the characteristic irregular outline and surface texture of mid-sixteenth-century French billon coinage. |
