Sidi Mohammed III came to power in 1757 following a period of severe dynastic instability — the decade prior had seen multiple pretenders and near-continuous civil conflict across the Maghreb. His early coinage from Marrakesh was among the first deliberate efforts to re-establish a coherent monetary framework for the Alaoui sultanate, and the short window of this type's production reflects how quickly his minting standards evolved in the opening years of his reign.
