Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in four to five horizontal lines within a plain inner circle, containing the shahada and formulaic religious legends typical of Abbasid-influenced Samanid coinage. The central legend is enclosed by a single circular line border, beyond which a circular marginal legend in Kufic script runs along the inner margin, itself bounded by a dotted or beaded outer ring and a plain rim. The flan is irregular and slightly broader than the die, characteristic of hand-struck hammered silver dirhams of the eastern Islamic world in the early 4th century AH.
