背面描述 Central field occupied by multiple horizontal lines of Arabic inscription in raised relief, containing the Shahada and the name and titles of Sultan Mas'ud I, the Seljuq ruler of Rûm. The text is arranged in the typical Islamic aniconic fashion, filling the field in bold Kufic-influenced script. A marginal legend or border inscription may have originally framed the central text, though much of the periphery is lost to the irregular flan. The die work reflects the provincial hammered coinage tradition of 12th-century Anatolia.

附加信息

Mas'ud I consolidated Seljuk power in Anatolia after the catastrophic fragmentation following the First Crusade, and his coinage reflects a sultanate still negotiating its identity between Persian administrative tradition and the realities of ruling a largely Greek-speaking, formerly Byzantine population. His reign saw repeated conflict with the Crusader states, the Danishmendids, and the Byzantine Empire simultaneously — a political environment that demanded constant military expenditure and, consequently, a functioning silver coinage.

The Mitchiner reference range spanning two catalogue numbers suggests die variation across what was likely production at Konya or Sivas.
