Sulayman Khan was the last Ilkhanid figurehead propped up by the Chupanid amir Hasan Kuchak, who wielded real power while the khan's name legitimized the coinage. When Hasan Kuchak was assassinated in 1343, the fiction of Ilkhanid continuity began collapsing entirely. Sulayman himself was killed in 1346, ending both the Chupanid grip on Azerbaijan and the last pretense of a functioning Ilkhanate. Dirhams of this period circulated across a fragmenting northwestern Iran where multiple successor powers were already minting competing issues.
