Obverse description Square flan with multiple lines of Arabic Kufic script filling the central field, arranged in horizontal registers. The inscriptions contain the religious formula and the name of the Hammudid ruler Idris II al-Ali. The lettering is bold and angular in the Kufic style characteristic of Andalusian Taifa coinage of the mid-eleventh century. The margins bear additional marginal legends in a smaller script, partially off-flan due to the irregular square shape of the hammered blank.
