Additional information

Timur Qutluq seized the Golden Horde throne in 1397 after Tokhtamysh — backed by Timur himself — was driven out following the catastrophic Battle of the Kondurcha River. The Ulugh al-Jadidah mint, one of the Horde's more active urban strikes, was producing coinage under rapid political turnover; Timur Qutluq's reign lasted only until 1399, making his issues inherently short-window. This particular weight falls notably below the reformed dang standard, reflecting the broader debasement pressure the Horde's mints were under during the succession chaos of the 1390s.
