| Reverse description | Central field displays the first verse of Surah Al-Ikhlas (Quran 112:1-4) in three lines of angular Kufic script: 'God is One, God is Eternal, He neither begets nor is begotten, nor is there any equivalent to Him.' A concentric marginal legend band, enclosed within two linear circles, bears the profession of faith 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God.' The overall composition follows the standard Umayyad reformed dirham type established under Abd al-Malik, with purely epigraphic decoration and no figural or symbolic elements. The flan exhibits the characteristic irregular shape and slight surface porosity of hammered Umayyad silver. |
