The marginal legend, running around the outer field, contains a quotation from Qur'an 42:23, rendered in elegant early Kufic epigraphy. The overall composition follows the standard epigraphic dirham format established by the Umayyad reform coinage, with all design elements consisting exclusively of Arabic religious and administrative inscriptions and no figural imagery. |

The marginal legend encircling the outer annulus carries the Mission verse, Qur'an 9:33, proclaiming the prophethood of Muhammad, executed in the same angular early Kufic style as the obverse.
