| Obverse description | Central field bears three lines of Kufic Arabic script, the uppermost reading 'لا اله الا', forming part of the Shahada. The central inscription is encircled by a single marginal legend in Kufic script commencing with 'بسم الله' at approximately one o'clock and reading right to left, giving the mint name Ifriqiya and the AH date. The margin is framed by two concentric rings with evenly spaced annulets forming a decorative border typical of early Abbasid reformed coinage. |
