Reverse description Central field contains the Quranic phrase in Arabic Kufic script: 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the messenger of God). The outer marginal legend carries the continuation of Quranic verse 9:33: 'Muhammad rasul Allah arsalahu bi al-huda wa din al-haqq li-yuzhirahu ala al-din kullihi wa law kariha al-mushrikun' (Muhammad is the messenger of God, who sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists are averse). The reverse, like the obverse, is purely epigraphic in the classical Abbasid hammered dirham tradition, with no decorative borders or figural elements.
