| Obverse description | Entirely epigraphic design in the standard Abbasid aniconic style. The central field contains the Shahada legend in three horizontal lines of Kufic script within a linear square frame, reading 'There is no deity except God alone, He has no equal.' An inner circular border separates the central field from the surrounding marginal legend, which records the mint name al-Muhammadiyya and the AH date 143, inscribed in Kufic script. The outer border is composed of a ring of pellets, characteristic of early Abbasid hammered silver coinage. |
