Obverse description Entirely epigraphic design in the standard Abbasid aniconic style. The central field contains the Shahada legend in three horizontal lines of Kufic script within a linear square frame, reading 'There is no deity except God alone, He has no equal.' An inner circular border separates the central field from the surrounding marginal legend, which records the mint name al-Muhammadiyya and the AH date 143, inscribed in Kufic script. The outer border is composed of a ring of pellets, characteristic of early Abbasid hammered silver coinage.

Reverse description Entirely epigraphic design in the Abbasid aniconic tradition. The central field bears a three-line Kufic inscription within concentric circular borders reading 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God.' The surrounding marginal legend carries the Quranic verse from Surah At-Tawbah (9:33), inscribed in angular Kufic script around the periphery. The coin is bounded by a finely executed pellet border, consistent with Abbasid hammered silver dirhams of the mid-second century AH. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, typical of hand-struck coinage of the period.
