| Reverse description | The reverse displays three horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic legend in the central field, opening with 'lillah' (to God) above the Quranic continuation of the shahada: 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God, may God's prayer and peace be upon him.' The field is framed by an inner circle. The marginal legend contains the Quranic verse (Sura 9:33): 'Muhammad is the Messenger of God; He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religions, even if the polytheists hate it.' The style and execution are consistent with rebel issues struck at Kufa during the short-lived Zaydi uprising of 199 AH. |
