Reverse description A bull charging to the left, depicted in dynamic motion with head lowered and forelegs raised, rendered in high relief against the flat field of the incuse square. A ground line divides the design, beneath which the Greek inscription TAM appears in three letters, identifying the magistrate or civic authority Tamyrake. The musculature of the animal is rendered with considerable skill, consistent with the artistic conventions of Chersonesian coinage of the early fourth century BC.

Additional information

Chersonesos — the Greek colonial city on the southwestern tip of Crimea — was founded by Herakleia Pontika in the late fifth century BC and quickly developed its own civic coinage independent of its mother city. The "Tamyrake" designation identifies a magistrate's name appearing on the issue, a control system used to assign mint responsibility and, presumably, accountability for metal quality. Magistrate-signed fractional silver from this mint is poorly represented in the major reference corpora, which explains the absent catalog numbers across Anokhin, HGC, and the SNG series.
