Obverse description Forepart of a winged boar advancing to the right, rendered in bold archaic relief. The broad, muscular chest and lowered snout of the boar are depicted with characteristic early Greek naturalism, while the large, swept-back wing rises prominently above the animal's body, its individual feathers rendered as a series of fine, parallel engraved lines radiating outward. The powerful legs and trotters are visible at the lower field. No legend or inscription appears in the field.

Additional information

Ialysos was one of the three ancient Doric cities of Rhodes — alongside Kameiros and Lindos — that operated as independent poleis before the synoikism of 408 BC unified them under the newly founded city of Rhodes. That political merger effectively ended autonomous coinage at Ialysos, which makes issues from this mint products of a narrowing window. The diobol series referenced across these collections represents the small-denomination end of a modest civic coinage, likely facilitating local market transactions rather than long-distance trade.
