توضیحات روی سکه A lion depicted in left-facing profile, crouching in a predatory posture above a ground line, actively mauling its prey beneath its forepaws. The musculature of the feline body is rendered with vigorous, naturalistic relief characteristic of early Classical Greek coinage. The scene conveys dynamic tension, with the lion's head lowered toward the quarry and its haunches raised. The field is plain, with no inscription or border. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of early hammered issues from Ionia.

توضیحات پشت سکه The forepart of a bull's head and neck, shown in left-facing profile, set within a pelleted square border that is itself contained within a deeply sunk incuse square punch. The bovine features are rendered with compact, stylised relief, the curving neck and muzzle clearly articulated within the confined flan. The granulated or pelleted inner border frames the central device and serves as a decorative and functional boundary. No inscription is present. This reverse type is a hallmark of archaic and early Classical Samian coinage.

اطلاعات تکمیلی

Samos in this period was navigating the aftermath of the Ionian Revolt and the shifting pressures of Athenian imperial expansion through the Delian League. The island maintained enough autonomous monetary output to issue fractional silver independently, though its relationship with Athens grew increasingly coercive through the mid-fifth century — culminating in the Athenian suppression of the Samian revolt of 440–439 BC, which effectively ended this phase of independent Samian coinage.
