| Mô tả mặt sau | A plain cross pattee occupies the centre of the field, dividing the reverse into four quadrants in the manner typical of Ibero-medieval billon coinage. The cross is rendered in low relief, with arms extending nearly to the inner border. A circular legend surrounds the cross, reading a variation of REX SANCIVS, identifying the issuing monarch; lettering style and spelling vary considerably across dies. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and uneven strike associated with hand-hammered production of the late 12th to early 13th century. |

Sancho I inherited a kingdom his father Afonso Henriques had spent a lifetime carving out of Moorish territory, and his coinage reflects a reign defined as much by consolidation as by conquest. The dinheiro was the workhorse denomination of medieval Iberian trade, and these billon pieces circulated alongside currencies from Castile, León, and the County of Tripoli as Portugal's southern frontier remained genuinely contested through much of Sancho's rule.
