Sancho I ruled Majorca as a client of the French crown, his kingdom perpetually squeezed between Aragonese ambition and Angevin pressure. These dineros were struck under the terms of vassalage established after the partition of the Mallorcan inheritance — Sancho holding the island kingdom while Aragon retained the mainland Catalan territories.
