| Beschrijving voorzijde | Two standing figures face the viewer in Byzantine hieratic style: at left, King Stefan Uroš III Dečanski depicted in royal robes and crown, and at right, his patron saint Stefan the Protomartyr, both jointly holding a large patriarchal cross between them. The figures are rendered in low relief with stylized drapery typical of medieval Serbian coinage. A Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading VROSIVS REX SSTEFAN, identifying the king and the saint. The overall design reflects the strong Byzantine artistic influence prevalent in the Nemanjić dynasty's coinage. |
