The legends proclaim the religious formula and the name and titles of the reigning Mamluk sultan, Shihab al-Din Ahmad I. The script is deeply struck in high relief, with characteristic Mamluk calligraphic style featuring sweeping ascenders and interlocking letterforms. The flat, irregular flan is typical of hammered Mamluk gold coinage of the mid-fourteenth century. No figurative imagery is present, in accordance with Islamic numismatic convention. |

The deeply incised letterforms show the vigorous, somewhat crowded calligraphy typical of hammered gold dinars of this period. The coin's surface exhibits the slight undulation and flan irregularities inherent to medieval hand-struck coinage. No decorative borders or geometric ornaments are present. |
