Dinar - King Stefan III Dusan

Stefan Dušan seized the Serbian throne in 1331 by deposing his own father, Stefan Dečanski, who died in captivity shortly after — almost certainly by strangulation on his son's orders. The dinar issues of this early reign period predate Dušan's self-proclamation as Emperor of the Serbs and Greeks in 1346, after which the coinage and titulature changed substantially. Jovanović type 11-1 falls within a transitional stretch of minting activity tied directly to Dušan's aggressive territorial expansion into Byzantine Macedonia.
