Obverse description Purely epigraphic design typical of Andalusian Umayyad coinage, with no figurative imagery. The central field contains four horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged within a double linear border, presenting the Shahada and the name of the Prophet Muhammad. A circular marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script runs around the periphery within a beaded or rope border, recording the mint name al-Andalus and the regnal year in words. The overall composition is dense and finely struck, with deeply incised letterforms characteristic of the Cordoban mint workshop.
