Obverse description Aniconic design typical of Abbasid coinage, displaying three lines of bold Kufic Arabic script in the central field proclaiming the Shahada and the prophetic mission. The central legend is enclosed within a single circular line border, surrounded by a continuous marginal legend carrying the Quranic verse from Surah al-Tawbah (9:33) in Kufic script. The outer border is defined by a dotted or granulated rim following the irregular flan edge. The entire design is executed in raised relief against a flat field, characteristic of late 8th-century Abbasid hammered gold coinage.
