Reverse description Reverse field displays three horizontal registers of Kufic Arabic inscription within a plain inner border, surrounded by a marginal legend along the periphery. The central inscriptions name the caliph 'Abd al-Rahman III with his regnal title 'al-Nasir li-Din Allah' and his designation as Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful). The lower register of the inner field records the mint date in Arabic words, though no mint city is cited. The bold angular Kufic lettering is consistent with official Córdoban caliphal production of the early tenth century. The flan is slightly uneven at the edges, typical of hammered gold coinage of the period.
