| Description de l’avers | The effigy of King Kanishka II depicted in full figure, standing facing, wearing a crown and diadem with elaborate royal regalia. The king holds a long standard or sceptre in his right hand while extending his left hand to sacrifice at a small altar positioned to the left of the figure. The style is characteristic of Kushan die-cutting, with a frontal presentation of the royal figure rendered in the bold, somewhat schematic artistic tradition of the Kushan court. She is shown in formal, frontal presentation with attributes consistent with her role as a divine personification of wealth and royal legitimacy. The surrounding field bears a Bactrian legend identifying the deity, though heavy patination and surface corrosion render the specific lettering largely illegible on this specimen. The overall style reflects the syncretic Irano-Buddhist artistic conventions characteristic of Kushan coinage of the mid-third century. |
