The scene commemorates the Roman-sponsored installation of Artaxias as king of Armenia, presented as an act of Roman imperial beneficence and authority. The two figures are rendered in a classicising style typical of eastern provincial coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. The reverse legend is divided across the field, flanking the figurative composition. |
