The effigy displays the god's characteristic flowing, radiate hair arranged in thick curling locks framing the face, with a small rose bud visible above the forehead as a dynastic symbol. The facial features are modeled with considerable artistic refinement typical of early Hellenistic Rhodian coinage, exhibiting naturalistic treatment of the eyes, nose, and slightly parted lips. | Opis rewersu | A large, centrally placed rose in full bloom, the primary civic emblem of Rhodes, depicted with three open petals and a prominent central bud rising from a calyx with two flanking leaves and a curved stem. To the left of the rose stem appears the magistrate's control letter A (alpha), and to the right a trident symbol serving as a secondary control mark. The Greek ethnic legend POΔION arcs around the upper field, with the additional letters A and Ψ flanking the upper portion of the design, identifying the issuing city and magistrate. The composition is bold and heraldic in style, characteristic of early Hellenistic Rhodian silver coinage. |
