This dichalkon belongs to a long municipal series issued under the authority of the demos, spanning the late Seleucid withdrawal from the region through the early Principate — a stretch of nearly 150 years during which Sardes navigated the transition from Attalid bequest to direct Roman administration following the dissolution of the Pergamene kingdom in 133 BC.
