Dardanus was a small coastal city in the Troad — the region of northwestern Asia Minor facing the Hellespont — whose civic bronze issues under the Antonines are poorly represented in major collections. The ΔΑΡΔΑΝΙωΝ ethnic places this firmly among the city's autonomous-style output struck during Commodus's time as co-emperor under Marcus Aurelius, before his sole reign began in 177. RPC IV.2 records very few specimens for this type, and die studies remain incomplete.
