Beschrijving keerzijde A horse proceeding to the left, rendered in the schematic Celtic style typical of Gaulish coinage of the late 1st century BC. The mane is depicted as a series of distinct pellets or balls arranged along the neck. A star or solar symbol occupies the field in front of the horse's head, while a prominent large globule is placed between the legs. The field is otherwise plain, with no legend or inscription.

Aanvullende informatie

The Caleti were a Belgic Gaulish people occupying the territory around the mouth of the Seine — the region Caesar identifies in the Gallic Wars as having submitted relatively early, around 56 BC. The decade bracketing this issue coincides precisely with Roman military pressure reshaping tribal coinage across northern Gaul, as minting authorities contracted and silver supplies grew uncertain.

DT#S-663 is a scarce type within Caleti output, which was never prolific to begin with.
